EPISTAR Develops World’s Highest Output Short Wavelength Infrared LEDs to Strength its Wareness in Health Detection Application

Hsinchu, Taiwan –January 19, 2022 –

As a subsidiary of Ennostar Inc. (TAIEX: 3714), EPISTAR is the world's leading supplier of LED chips, and its infrared technology and products are also in leading position. In recent years, EPISTAR has been aggressively investing resources in short-wavelength-infrared LED chips (SWIR, wavelength > 1100nm) technology development based one the expertise in technology and R&D accumulated for decades. These products have been certified under related regulations and introduced in various customers’ wearable health detection devices. The optical power of 1300nm product is now reached 25mW which is 28% higher than others and makes the 1300nm product the highest output SWIR LED in the world.

With the raising awareness of public health, the application is more diverse and the demand of physiological data detection (bio-sensor) has been increased sharply. Besides common applications such as detection of heart rate and blood oxygen, more applications with non-intrusive detection are being developed, such as skin moisture detection, blood glucose and blood lipids. The short wavelength infrared LED chips with the wavelength above 1100 nm are required for the detection of these special physiological applications. The efficiency and reliability of LED chips are the keys to the success of health or medical products, therefore, EPISTAR Lab uses InP (Indium Phosphide) as the substrate to develop the highest output short-wavelength-infrared LED chips in the world with highly efficient emitting power and high reliability under low voltage. Under the breakthrough of short-wavelength-infrared LED technology development, it is for sure that a variety of different applications with non-invasive health detection beneficial to different users will be launched to market in the near future.
From 1996, EPISTAR has set many records in the world through its collaboration with global manufacturers to create new applications with LED. In January, 2021, EPISTAR and Lextar had established a joint venture- Ennostar Inc. to create synergy in the industry.

In the future, EPISTAR will keep tracking market demand from end market and continue to work with customers for new product development. With the resource support beneficial from group integration, EPISTAR can ensure the technical leadership and provide the best product and service to customers to 'realize the infinite possibilities of LED applications' together.
